Join Hannah Moloney, Nick Ritar and guests for 2 weeks of deep permaculture design learning. You’ll leave this course knowing how to design resilient, robust landscapes & people-scapes in a beautiful learning environment.
*Book in with two or more people & pay $1600 per person – a saving of $250*
This Permaculture Design Certificate (PDC) has been structured so you get to design your own property of choice, plus complete a permaculture design for a real life client and property. This provides you the opportunity to test and practice permaculture designing in a range of contexts with the support of experienced designers and practitioners right at your side to step you through it all.
As a fully catered, residential course you’ll get to immerse yourself in all things permaculture with like-minded folk. Classes run from 8:30am – 5pm each day with some optional (but highly recommended) evening sessions over the two weeks.

This free family event is bigger than ever with over 100 fabulous stalls. There’s heaps of activities for the kids including the popular Kids Love Science with their liquid nitrogen ice cream, a physicists vs the kids bottle flipping competition, snakes from Reptile Rescue Tasmania, petting zoo, kids crafts, circus skills and jumping castle. There is a full entertainment program featuring the Hobart College Band, The Clementines, Dominic Francis Grief Ensemble, Maharajas Choice, Studio 42, Bollywood dance, Sing Australia and much more. 2017 Living Local Feast

Join us for the 7th Annual Living Local Feast – a celebration of Tasmanian Food. The Feast is an opportunity to experience the wonders of our island state through a gourmet meal.
The spectaculour 13 (!!) course meal will consist entirely of Tasmanian ingredients and will be followed by a chance to bid on items that highlight the best of Tasmania in our fundraising auction to support the work of Sustainable Living Tasmania and the Tassievore Eat Local Challenge.
We are super excited to have chef, Cameron Perry and the Hamlet team, on board to help create an amazing spread for you! Cam is passionate about local produce and creating taste sensations that highlight the region and season.

Chicken and Duck Husbandry and Slaughtering Workshop

Down South Farm will be running our chicken and/or duck husbandry and slaughtering workshop again this year.
You can read all about a previous one on our blog at https://downsouthfarm.com/2016/06/the-first-chicken-husbandry-and-slaughtering-workshop/Included will be course materials, a chicken or duck for each person to butcher, a very chickeney and ducky lunch, as well as morning and afternoon teas.
In husbandry we will tour the farm and explain how we raise our poultry organically including; providing suitable housing, plans for a house, nutrition, chemical free pest care, breeding, and chicken behaviour.
The slaughtering section will be a step by step guide to slaughtering a chook. We will demonstrate each step and then participants will practice each step until confident.
