We're looking for a passionate and knowledgeable person to take on the role of Sustainability Consultant to continue delivering, improving and growing the consulting services we provide to organisations, including energy, carbon, and waste audits.
Tasmania has achieved net zero emissions
Tasmania's greenhouse gas emissions were minus 10,000 tonnes in 2015-16 according to a recently released report. That is, we drew more greenhouse gases out of the atmosphere than we put into it!
We don't want to overstate the significance of this achievement, as it came about not through proactive efforts, but simply by letting a huge volume of forests regrow that we'd cut in previous years. Further, it only includes emissions that occurred in Tasmania; the emissions that resulted from the electricity and stuff we imported are counted elsewhere.
BUT, this is an awesome milestone nevertheless. We're among the first places in the world to reach it, and so it is worthy of celebration! It also helps us to imagine what is possible if humanity puts some serious effort into restoring natural systems.
We've still got a lot of work to do, but Tasmania can play a leadership role in securing a stable climate, and we can thrive in the process! Help us make that reality through our Climate Solutions project by making a tax deductible donation now:
